CANSKATE SESSIONS ARE ON FORHAN RINK @ MAGNA CTR ,

800 MULOCK DRIVE, NEWMARKET, ON

We’re excited to welcome you to another fantastic season with the Newmarket Skating Club! Our CanSkate and PreCanSkate programs begin the week of September 16, 2024, and we’re thrilled to have you join us.

What is CanSkate

Our Learn-to-Skate programs are designed to teach fundamental skating skills to people of all ages who are interested in ice sports such as hockey, ringette and figure skating, or simply want to skate for fitness and enjoyment. Whether you’re a beginner who can balance and move forward on skates, or if you’re enrolling a young skater in PreCanSkate we have a program tailored to your needs.

CanSkate is Skate Canada’s flagship learn-to-skate program, focused on fun, participation and basic skill development. Skaters will earn ribbons, badges and other incentives as they learn fundamental skills, all while progressing at their own pace. Our sessions are active and engaging, using teaching aids, music and a variety of activities to create a fun and effective learning environment. Lessons are delivered by NCCP-certified professional coaches, with support from trained volunteer Program Assistants.

Adaptive and Inclusive Programming

Due to Skate Canada’s required coach-to-student ratios, Newmarket Skating Club has limited capacity to offer adaptive or inclusive coaching for skaters with exceptional needs. If your skater requires individualized or specialized programming to support physical, developmental, behavioral or cognitive needs, please reach out to us at [email protected] so we can determine the most appropriate programming for your child.

What you need before you step on the Ice:

For all PreCanSkate and CanSkate programs, skaters must have:

  • Properly fitting skates
  • CSA-approved hockey helmet
  • Long pants
  • Mittens or gloves
  • A warm sweater or jacket.

We recommend dressing in layers to ensure comfort in various rink conditions.

We can’t wait to see you at the rink and help you develop your skating skills in a fun and supportive environment!
